PALEONTOLOGICAL GOLD COINS
The South African Mint introduced the individual Quarter Ounce Gold coin to its product range in 1997 with the difficult to pronounce Paleontological series.
This range,in conjuction with the World Heritage Sites Series, is often referred to as the R2 Gold series. It features fossil and other archeological themes.
These gold coins were issued in green Leatherette boxes which were changed to black leatherette boxes in 2002 for the World Heritage Series. Some of the green boxes feature a square window in the lid which is nice for display purposes.
